The type of gift really depends on the person

Special occasions always seem to have that little more pressure added to them, particularly if you’re happily partnered up with someone. Suddenly occasions such as Christmas and Valentine’s Day become fraught with doubt. What if he/she doesn’t like it? What if you don’t like what they get you? Well, gift etiquette plays a big part here (Just keep practising that smile just in case!), but if you really want to be on the safe side, and avoid the awkwardness of another terrible sweater consigned to the back of the wardrobe, then here are some gift ideas on how to find the perfect pressie for your better half.
First of all, the type of gift really depends on the person. The key here is to think about what the person’s interests are, and now comes the tricky bit. So, write down on a piece of paper (Which must be carefully hidden!) what your partner likes. This can usually be scaled down to stuff that came up on your first date, when you were doing the whole “getting to know you” bit. Is it sports? Or art? Or music? Or paragliding? Whatever floats your partner’s boat, there’s bound to be some gift ideas related to it, so worry not.
It could even be something small -presents don’t always have to be for special occasions, but they don’t have to be big ones, either. A bunch of flowers (Not garage forecourt carnations, mind), makes great Gift ideas for boyfriend as well as Gift ideas for girlfriend. Research has shown that not only do blooms cheer you up, but guys like them too –so surprise your beau at work with a bouquet. A more personal touch might be to get something which reminds you of the early days you spent together –reminiscing about this apparently brings people closer in relationships, so if you went to see a film, why not get it on DVD?
Of course, bigger occasions such as Christmas or birthdays always have a little more gravitas –so think carefully about what your partner would appreciate. There are a number of places on the internet offering suggestions for gift ideas for girlfriend or gift ideas for boyfriend, but it may be that your loved one is “peppering” the conversation with hints. So, in the weeks running up to the occasion, whatever it may be, listen up. Is there a gadget they have that isn’t working? Or have they walked past a shop window and pointed something out? Short of dragging you into a shop, pointing at the thing they want and asking you for it (Which, let’s face it would be the easy option, but it’s not exactly romantic, is it?), hint-dropping is really the only option when it comes to listening out for gift ideas.
Whether you’re looking for gift ideas for boyfriend or gift ideas for girlfriend, try to find a gift which shows you’ve put a lot of thought into it –because really, that’s what counts.
